Perenco is pleased to announce the successful results of the B9 Well on the Tchatamba Field, Gabon, which has flowed at a rate of 4,700 barrels of oil per day (bopd) with 15% bottom sediment and water (BSW). Drilling operations went smoothly with 108m of cores recovered (100% recovery) whilst maintaining a good hole condition.
Following the B8 appraisal well drilled last year, which is still producing 3,500 bopd with 50% BSW, today's news is further evidence of the remaining potential of the field. Wells B9 and B8 are now contributing one third of Tchatamba's overall current production.
Perenco has conducted extensive technical work on the field over the last two years, both at a subsidiary and HQ level. The field has a complex geology with stacked reservoirs at the Azile, Cap Lopez and Madiela levels and, as such, the field had previously been seen as having little development potential. However, Perenco has looked beyond the primary intervals, where the historic focus had been, and has proven that the field continues to hold considerable potential.
